Personal Training Cost

How much does personal training cost?

1 on 1 strength training in our personal training gym

The short answer is... It Depends. There are a lot of factors that contribute to what the cost of personal training is and how much it will cost to invest in your health and fitness.

The price for personal training sessions will vary depending on the session duration, the number of people participating and the qualifications and experience of the trainer.

There is also different fees if you are training in our personal training gym or whether you are wanting to train in-home or outdoors at a nearby local park.

Typical rate for personal trainers in Melbourne are often between $50 and $130 per session, while group fitness and classes range from $10 to $35 per session and can be a good option if budget is a concern and you are looking to keep the average cost per session cheaper.

The cost is per session and does not change. Should you want to do more sessions per week there is no difference in price based on how often you train, or by buying sessions as a pack or in a package. Pricing does vary based on the length of the session, and although we recommend 45 minute sessions, there is also the option of 1 hour and 30 minute sessions.

Moonee Valley Health and Fitness (MVFit) is an award winning Personal Training Gym and has been ranked in the top 10 private gyms in Melbourne numerous times.

Personal Training rates at MVFit are between $80.00 and $120.00 per appointment and offer group training classes from $38 per week for unlimited group pt access.

Our trainers are more experienced and qualified than your average trainer that you will find at the many other gyms across Melbourne. Although the average rate may be higher than some, the qualifications and knowledge of each trainer is a reason why MVFit has been rated one of the top 10 gyms in Melbourne and has some of the best personal trainers near you.

Is personal training worth the money?

It is definitely worth it, and finding the right trainer can make all the difference to your results. A good personal trainer will provide you with the extra motivation and accountability that is needed to be your best.

Be careful to check the gyms testimonials and trainers expertise that you are spending your money on. The level of knowledge and training experience your coach has can be quite different between the average trainers and the best personal trainers.

When you start prioritising your health, adding a personal trainer is a great investment to fast-track your results. The improvement in your health and fitness levels can have long-term payment in quality of life, and even decreased health care costs

Are personal trainers expensive?

Hiring a personal fitness trainer might seem like a luxury but if you really want to get the most out of your workouts, a trainer is a great investment.

Don't underestimate the value of a great coach. Yes, doing your research online and reading a few books or blog posts on fitness is a fantastic start, but that doesn't make you an expert. The type of personal trainer you should be hiring should be part of successful gym or team of trainers who have years of experience and 10,000+ hours of knowledge and training.

When you look at the fees a trainer charges, it is not just the time they are spending with you, it's also the knowledge that they bring to each and every client they work with.

If your trainers fees are cheap, find out why they are so cheap. On the flip side, if your trainer fees are very expensive ask them to prove their worth to you as well. The best trainers and coaches will have no problems at all in being able to provide you with references of both past and current clients.

How to save money on a personal trainer

The best way to save money on a personal trainer is to work with the best trainers that can get you results. Having an inexperienced cheap coach for 12 months, may cost you less per session, but at the end of the day if you are not getting the results you are wanting then you will be wasting your money.

If you are on a tight budget, another way of saving money is group personal training or training with a friend or partner and splitting the individual cost per session.

Group personal training classes are another good option to still get access to top level fitness professionals at a reduced cost, and ideally you want the trainer your working with to be the one creating and delivering the program tailored for you and the group.

Be careful of the 'functional fitness franchises' that are popping up everywhere that are advertised as group personal training classes, when they are not personalised at all and definitely not suitable for everyone. In these classes majority of the time the coach running the session had zero involvement in the creating of the program.

How much is small group personal training?

Small group personal training is a good option if you are looking to save money on a personal trainer and attend a group class instead of 1 on 1 coaching. Group fitness and classes range from $10 to $35 per session.

Choosing the cheapest options isn’t always the best idea, and having an inexperienced coach working with you in a group setting is something that you should avoid.  Small group personal training in a gym with top coaches reduces the overall costs of your personal training without settling for an inexperienced trainer.

Group classes can also help keep you motivated and keep the average cost per session lower. Working out with a group of friends with similar fitness goals can make sessions more enjoyable and will get you to meet other local people in your community. MVFit offers unlimited access to the weekly group fitness classes for $45 per week, and is a big discount on 1 on 1 appointments.

Personal Training Qualifications, Experience & Prices

Finding the right personal trainer for you shouldn't be based on how many Instgram followers they have or on fitness photo shoots they have done. Training experience and education is extremely important when investing in your coach, and the fitness industry is full of trainers with little training experience or knowledge.

All reputable trainers have certifications, and bachelor’s degrees in athletic coaching, physical therapy and rehabilitation, or sports medicine.

You should always look for a trainer with a university degree and not just the bare minimum of a Cert III or IV in Fitness. Finding a trainer with higher education is a wise investment and you also want to make sure that the trainer has at least a few years of real-life coaching experience and results with people like yourself.
